Hawk Falcon (Taka)
Meaning: Warrior, Strength, Power
Taka is the word for both Falcon and Hawk. The main difference between the two species is that falcons have a notched beak. The birds have long been symbols of the samurai because of their strength and piercing gaze. They are common designs found on men’s kimonos.
In Japanese irezumi they are often paired with snakes. This image represents the idea of killing or being killed but more deeply can represent each animal specifically. Taka represent power and snakes longevity. Seeing hawks feeding their offspring would be seen as a great sign for rebirth and a hopeful future.
